Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes- each Cottage Ceramics piece is handmade in Melbourne using a mix of wheel throwing, hand building, sculpting and glazing techniques.

As every item is made by hand, there will inevitably be some variation in shape, size, colour or finish. Every piece will be unique and have its own personality

  • Not always. Each ceramic piece is individually handmade, so there may be slight differences in glaze, colour, shape, size or decoration. Product photos are a close guide, but every piece is unique. The actual colour of a piece may also vary, as lighting and screen settings may result in slight shifts in colour/tone.

  • All items intended for food or drink are made with food-safe glazes.

If a decorative piece is not designed for food use for aesthetic purposes, the item will be listed as such.

  • Most functional pieces are dishwasher safe when placed in the top shelf.

Handwashing only is recommended for pieces such as those containing intricate detail or sculptural items, but this will be clearly listed in the description of the item.

  • All our pieces are microwave safe- we currently don’t have any products containing gold luster or metallic glazes.

  • You can treat your ceramics as you would any other piece of pottery. All of our kitchenware pieces (that includes mugs, bowls, plates and dishes) are food-, dishwasher-, and microwave-safe.

Our pieces are designed and made with longevity in mind, with care taken every step of the way to ensure pieces are as strong as possible. Our ceramics are designed to be used and loved.

  • Our ceramic tealight holders are designed specifically for use with standard tealight candles. Each piece is made with a sturdy base and open wall spaces to help diffuse heat and allow light to glow through safely.

Always place candle holders on a heat-safe, stable surface, and never leave a lit candle unattended. Avoid touching, moving or picking up the candle holder during or shortly after use, as the top of the piece may become hot. Allow it to cool completely before handling.
