About the brand
Cottage Ceramics is a small Melbourne-based ceramics brand creating playful, handmade pieces for everyday use and decoration.
I make everything myself in my small Melbourne-based studio, from mugs, bowls and planters to tiny cottages and other decorative pieces.
My Story
I first started working with clay over four years ago through handbuilding, and I quickly became obsessed with the possibilities of what you can create. I later started using the pottery wheel, which opened up a whole new side of ceramics for me. I love the mix of practicality and creativity involved in making pieces that can be used every day, but still feel personal and handmade.
Inspirations
My work is inspired by cosy homes, gardens, animals, flowers, soft colours and little cottagecore details. I like making pieces that feel homely, charming and a little whimsical, without being overly polished or mass-produced.
The process
Each piece passes through my hands many times before it is finished. I shape, trim, decorate, glaze and fire everything myself, and every item goes through two kiln firings along the way. It is a slow process, but that is part of what makes handmade ceramics feel so special.
Most pieces are one-of-a-kind or made in small batches, so collections are often limited and change over time. Some designs may return, but no two handmade pieces will ever be exactly the same.
